When you're shopping for a baby blanket, you'll find everything from simple printed blankets to handmade blankets featuring embroidered designs.
Both can be adorable, but they aren't quite the same.
So what's the difference?
Embroidery Is Created With Thread
Rather than the design being printed onto the surface of the blanket, embroidery is stitched using thread.
That gives the design texture and dimension that you can actually see and feel.
It's one of the things I love most about embroidery. Even a simple little design can add so much character to a blanket.
It Creates a Boutique Look
There is something about embroidery that instantly gives a piece that sweet, traditional boutique feel.
A little stitched teddy bear, bow, duck, woodland animal, or simple saying can take a cozy blanket and turn it into a beautiful baby gift.
And it doesn't necessarily need a child's name to feel special.
That's something I've especially fallen in love with lately.
By creating embroidered designs that aren't personalized, I can make unique baby blankets ahead of time and have them ready to ship rather than asking customers to wait weeks for a custom order.
Ready to Ship Can Still Be Special
Handmade doesn't have to mean waiting several weeks.
That's a huge part of what I'm building with Hollow Creek Heirlooms.
I want shopping handmade to feel a little more like discovering something in a tiny children's boutique.
You see the blanket.
You fall in love with it.
And it's already made. 🤎
Many of my pieces are created in very small quantities, and some are completely one of a kind depending on the fabric and design I have available.
A Blanket Can Become Part of Their Story
Eventually the baby who receives that blanket won't be a baby anymore.
But that little embroidered blanket may still be tucked away somewhere.
Maybe Mom remembers bringing it to Grandma's house.
Maybe it was always in the stroller.
Maybe it became the blanket they couldn't sleep without.
That's the part of handmade I love most.
I'm not simply sewing fabric and adding embroidery.
I'm creating something that gets to leave my little sewing room and become part of somebody else's childhood.
And I think that's pretty special. 🌿🤎
